Hung_Lo's 10 Step Leeching Guide
This FAQ is for n00bs. If you don't know how to leech or what leeching is then stop reading now. Yes just leave. Stop reading. WHY HAVEN'T YOU LEFT YET!!!! Ok well on irc its a little bit different than kazaa, morpheus, limewire or just simple www links to click on. You actually have to learn commands. As in typing them....sorta like dos. First things first. You were able to logon to an irc server. Great! You're doing better than most ppl already. But what irc client are you using? There are many that take the plain jane client and give it many add-ons making it much more useful. These include Excusion, sysreset, polaris, and invision. Yes there are many more but I'm not gonna take the time to list them all.
Why are you taking so long I wanna leech!?!?!? Cuz first you need the right tools.
- Get yourself a descent client if you plan on staying on irc for any length of time.
- Bookmark this page as You will either need it again(forgetting) or you will one day look back and look down on n00bs and send them this link.
Noooo we don't really look down on n00bs :P
Okies here is some basic commands for irc.
- You'll want a name. To choose a name or different one type "/nick name". Don't use quotes and replace name with yours.
- To find say... "anime" type "/list anime" and it will show you all the channels with the word anime in it. If you find a channel you want to goto on the list, simply double click it.
- What happens if you remember the channel name and don't wanna do list. Then type "/join #channel" of course replacing channel with the one you want to goto.
- Ok say you want to do an action. Such as kick somebody, but without it looking like your saying it. Type "/me kicks dumbass" uh..... replace dumbass with the person your kicking.
- Now your tired of this crap and wanna leave, type "/quit I hate all of you I wish you would DIE!!!" That will make you quit from that server and leave that msg behind for everybody to read :D or you can just type "/quit" and no msg.
- Oh wait... you wanted to leech... ok goto a channel you want to leech in. FIRST THING YOU DO IS TYPE "!rules" cuz it will save your life dammit and don't forget it. A LOT of channels will have bots<- bots are irc robots... they're there but nobodies home, but they can do useful stuff. After you type !rules usually one of them will message the rules of the channel. Some channels will not allow !list, @find, or xdcc list etc. Wha, huh, !list... what the hell is that???
- Once in a channel and you've read the rules if they allow !list, most will, then type "!list" in the channel. A bunch of nice multi colored messages show up. THESE ARE THE SERVERS!
EXAMPLE:
[9:07pm] -Bubba- [Fserve Active] - Trigger:[/ctcp Bubba git u'r anime] - Sends:[2/5] - Queues:[0/30] - Upload Speed:[203.3kB/s] - Message:[Firewalled, type "/dccserver +sc on 53"] - SysReset 2.53
Some important stuff... I'll go through from beginning to end. 9:07pm... that's what time it is where you live... watch this carefully as you will notice it saying 2:00am and 4:00am very soon. Bubba is the guy that owns this particular server. So if something goes wrong you might ask him, maybe he had a file one day and takes it off the next and you still need it, so you would "/msg Bubba gimi u'r filez" Trigger is the most important, it allows you on the server. For this one its "/ctcp Bubba git u'r anime" type that and enter. For most servers you'll get on. But notice it says firewalled. This you don't even care but you will care about the "/dccserver +sc on 53" you'll have to do that to get on. Notice he is using sysreset. Also... Sends is 2/5. That means that he can send upto 5 files at a time, and that he is currently sending 2. Queues means how many files are waiting to be downloaded. His is at 0 which means if you get on his server you will get an instant send since he only has 2 of 5 going, you'll be number 3 :D Usually only faster ppl can do 3 or more sends which means if you download from him it will be fast. He also has Upload speed in the message [203.3kB/s] and only 2 sends... so each person is getting around 100k/s :O
- Ok so you've typed !list and found a server. You've typed /ctcp Bubba git u'r anime and now a window pops up and you see files. NOW WHAT!!! OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Settle down ass monkey. Now its like ftp commands. DIR, GET, CD, QUIT, SENDS, QUEUES, CLR_QUEUES, HELP are valid commands on MOST servers. Clr_queues might be clear_q on others or whatever. So type dir to get a file listing. CD to change directories/folders whatever.
GET FILENAME.AVI <- is what you've been waiting for :P
Sends will tell you who's getting files from the server at that moment, the name of the file/size/speed/ and estimated time till finish. Queues will show you how many ppl are in front of you :P
- Hmmm... that's about it...oh wait there's more, darn. Tdcc and xdcc. Tdcc servers usually only have one file they are serving and it will be something like the one earlier.
[9:07pm] -Bubba- [Tdcc Active] - Trigger:[/ctcp Bubba inu yasha 106] - Sends:[2/5] - Queues:[0/30] - Upload Speed:[203.3kB/s] - Message:[Its Inu Yasha ep.106 what else?] - SysReset 2.53
Here you have bubba and his trigger /ctcp Bubba inu yasha 106, the message tells you what the files is. Usually.....
- Finally its xdcc list. This one is forbidden in most channels. As most servers that use xdcc only have about 10 files they are serving....but they are ultra fast and ultra 1337. They can do 200 sends at once and still give each person 200k/s :O But when you do a xdcc list it can cause the server to be kicked off of irc sometimes. As is the case usually someone will advertise the xdcc servers so u won't do a xdcc list. The trigger will look like this sorta, /msg Bubba xdcc send #1 or /msg Bubba xdcc GET animeforever #1 , depending on which server version they are using.
